What does ChatGPT cost?

ChatGPT prices subscription tiers

ChatGPT will cost between $0 and $200 per month for individual users in 2026, depending on the subscription. OpenAI offers four personal plans: Free ($0), Go ($8), Plus ($20) and Pro (two variants: $100 and $200). A new Pro variant of $100 per month has been added since 9 April 2026, with OpenAI filling the gap between Plus and the old Pro.

In addition, there are business options: Business ($25 per user per month) and Enterprise (customisation). In this overview, we compare what ChatGPT costs per subscription, what features you get and what type of use it fits for. Conversion to euros is always in brackets (exchange rate approximately €0.85 per dollar, April 2026).

What do you get with ChatGPT for free?

ChatGPT Free costs €0 and gives access to GPT-5 with limited usage limits. You can chat, save your conversation history and generate simple images. For a first introduction to What ChatGPT is and what it can do is sufficient.

What you miss: Deep Research in plenty, Sora for video, Codex for development and Agent Mode. You also run into clear message limits, after which the system switches back to a smaller version of the model.

Since February 2026, OpenAI has been showing ads under replies in the free version in the US. For Dutch users, this is not currently rolled out by default. Keep in mind that this may change.

Practical test: for a week, keep track of how often you get the “limit reached” message. Less than three times? Then free fits your actual usage. Daily? Then an upgrade pays off.

What does ChatGPT Go cost?

ChatGPT Go costs $8 per month (about €6.80) and launched globally in January 2026 after an earlier test period in India. Go gives wider message limits, more file uploads, more image generation and a longer memory window than Free.

The downside: Go also shows ads in the US and does not include advanced features like Deep Research, Sora, Codex or Agent Mode. For the price, you basically get an extended free version, not a professional work package.

For business use, Plus, for an extra $12 per month, is the better choice in almost all cases. Go is especially interesting if you use ChatGPT more than casual at home, but don't need the Plus features.

What does ChatGPT Plus cost?

ChatGPT Plus costs $20 per month (about €17) and has remained at the same price since its introduction in February 2023. It is the most popular paid subscription and the standard for professionals.

With Plus, you get unlimited access to GPT-5.4 Instant and ample access to GPT-5.4 Thinking, the reasoning model for more complex tasks. Deep Research (about 10 runs per month), Sora, Codex and Agent Mode are all included. The context window is large enough for reports, long documents and extended conversations.

Want to understand how ChatGPT works and why the Thinking mode produces different output from the standard mode? Then it helps to know the difference between fast models and reasoning models. After all, that determines when to deploy which model.

For most professionals who use ChatGPT regularly for work, Plus is the subscription with the best balance between price and features. Paying for Plus is one thing, working with it professionally is another. In the complete ChatGPT course for professionals build a way of working that allows you to actually deploy the features of Plus in the work where they deliver the most.

What does ChatGPT Pro cost?

ChatGPT Pro has existed since 9 April 2026 in two variants: $100 per month (about €85) and $200 per month (about €170). Both give access to exactly the same features, including the exclusive GPT-5.4 Pro model. The difference is in the usage limits.

The $100 variant offers five times more capacity than Plus, including five times more Codex usage. As a launch promotion, new subscribers will temporarily get 10 times more Codex usage than Plus until 31 May 2026. This variant is aimed at users who find Plus too limited, but cannot justify the move to $200.

The $200 variant offers 20 times more capacity than Plus. That plan is designed for power users who spend several hours daily working in ChatGPT and working on multiple projects in parallel. Think developers maintaining complex codebases, researchers with heavy Deep Research workflows or consultants using ChatGPT as their primary work tool.

OpenAI explicitly positions the new $100 variant as an answer to Anthropic's Claude Max, which also costs $100 per month. For most professionals, however, Plus remains the logical choice. The jump to a Pro subscription only pays off if you run into the Plus limits structurally.

What does ChatGPT cost for teams and companies?

ChatGPT Business (formerly Team) costs $25 per user per month (about €21) and is available from two users. You get a shared workspace, access to GPT-5.4, basic administrative tools, integrations with business tools such as Slack, Google Drive and SharePoint, and a guarantee that your data will not be used to train models by default.

ChatGPT Enterprise is the option for large-scale deployments and has custom pricing depending on team size and usage volume. You get unlimited use of GPT-5.4, comprehensive security controls, single sign-on, data privacy guarantees, analytics dashboards and dedicated support. For organisations with strict compliance requirements (financial, healthcare, government), Enterprise is often the only option that meets requirements.

Before choosing a business subscription, it is wise to determine what you want to do with ChatGPT and which functions your team will actually use. Business without clear working agreements delivers little. Enterprise without an adoption strategy is an expensive licence with no results.

ChatGPT prices per subscription in 2026

Subscription Price per month Limits compared to Plus Key features
Free $0 (€0) Limited, fallback to smaller model Base cat, conversation history, simple image generation. Ads in US.
Go $8 (≈ €6.80) Wider than Free, still limited More posts, uploads, image generation, longer memory. No Deep Research, Sora or Codex.
Plus $20 (≈ €17) Basic (reference) GPT-5.4 Thinking, Deep Research, Sora, Codex, Agent Mode. Ad-free.
Pro $100 $100 (≈ €85) 5x Plus (temporarily 10x Codex until 31 May 2026) Everything from Plus + GPT-5.4 Pro model, wider limits for Codex and Deep Research.
Pro $200 $200 (≈ €170) 20x Plus Everything from Pro $100 with maximum usage limits for parallel workflows.
Business $25/user (≈ €21) Team-specific Shared workspace, integrations, data not used for training, basic admin.
Enterprise Bespoke Unlimited SSO, analytics, data privacy guarantees, compliance, dedicated support.

Which ChatGPT subscription suits your work?

The choice depends on three things: how often you use ChatGPT, what features you need and whether you work with sensitive data.

Go ($8 / ±€6.80 per month) suits people who are above the free limits but do not need Deep Research or professional tools. Moderate usage, non-technical.

Plus ($20 / ±€17 per month) is the default choice for professionals who regularly use ChatGPT for copywriting, analysis or research. Nine out of 10 professionals are fine here. Pro $100 (±€85) comes into play if you find Plus structurally too limited for longer Codex sessions or heavy workflows. Pro $200 (±€170) only makes sense for daily intensive use across multiple parallel projects.

Business or Enterprise is needed as soon as data privacy, central management, SSO or compliance are a hard requirement. With a Personal subscription, your data is used for model training by default (unless you turn on opt-out). With Business and Enterprise, this is reversed.

Whichever subscription you choose: the price says nothing about how well you use it. In the complete ChatGPT course for professionals you will learn a working method with checkpoints, so that you actually deploy Plus or Pro features on tasks where they are most useful. Certificate included.
